About Sahara Night Camp

Long before Sahara Night Camp welcomed its first guest, Berber families had crossed these dunes for centuries, reading the wind and stars to navigate the Sahara Desert. Every camel trek we lead is guided by local Berber handlers whose families have worked this stretch of Erg Chebbi for generations. They know which ridge catches the best sunrise light, which route is gentlest for first-time riders, and how to read a change in the weather long before it arrives.

We built this luxury desert camp around the rhythm of the desert itself: quiet by day, alive at dusk. As the sun sets over Erg Chebbi, the dunes shift from gold to rose to deep violet, and by nightfall the Sahara sky opens into one of the darkest, clearest views of the stars found anywhere on Earth. It is this nightly transformation — more than any single amenity — that first inspired the idea of a Merzouga desert camp built around stargazing.

Our kitchen team draws on generations of Moroccan culinary tradition, slow-cooking tagines over charcoal, hand-rolling couscous, and brewing mint tea the traditional way — poured from height to raise a delicate foam. Many of our recipes come directly from Berber households in Merzouga, adapted for our dining tent but never simplified. Whether you join us for a communal dinner beneath the palms or a private table for two, every meal reflects the same respect for authentic Moroccan hospitality that defines everything else we do.
